echocord returns late june with a new release, joel alter under his jor-el alias, entitled �tilted reality� and comprising three originals from the swedish artist. currently based in copenhagen, sweden born producer and dj joel alter is a name synonymous with the contemporary techno scene on both his home turf and across the globe, his back catalogue to date features a long player for the uncanny valley imprint, solo ep�s for d�julz� bass culture, sweatshop and collaborative works for kontra musik alongside henrik johnsson amongst much more. this time round though we see alter return under his jor-el guise under which he first started releasing material on dj hell�s internation deejay gigolo imprint. up first is title-track �tilted reality� laid out over seven minutes with a slowly unfolding dynamic feel, encompassing spiraling atmospherics, distorted rhythms and blooming stab- sequences. �elevation� follows and takes a more direct groove-driven approach via straight four-four percussion and hooky bass chops, whilst tension building pads and fluttering dub echoes gradually build around the foundation. �solitude� closes out the package deliving into deeper realms with soft ethereal dub chords, acid tinged leads and emotive strings.

favorite recordings proudly presents this new official reissue of arian: a rare and underrated disco album originally released in 1981 by pgp rtb label and fully recorded in new-york. arian kerliu was born in the small town of macedonia, dibra or debar. arian�s first recordings for a local radio stations were at the age of 14, appearing in almost every music festival in ex-yugoslavia. when he was 19, arian came to new york city, working different jobs and studying music. his first music engagements were in various clubs throughout the city, playing guitar and singing. he then met with james benjamin-fish, well known bass-guitar player, with whom he formed the band arian & funky family, mainly performing in the best clubs of nyc at that time. together, they came to an idea to record an album of their own. after travelling throughout the us, they got to know each other very well, and had connected with probably some of the best musicians you could find at that time. thus they had sinclair acey arranging three songs and hubert eaves, as a writer of -still together-, a beautiful ballad written in honor of his wife. by that time hubert had gained two grammy awards for stephanie mills� albums. kornelius cambell also wrote and composed two songs of the album, which sinclair acey arranged. the album also contains a great cover of �can�t say goodbye� by bobby caldwell, a song that arian and james had interpreted almost every night when touring. and all of this completed with the background vocals of tawatha agee (mtume), shevill alexander and sybil thomas (raw silk). arian & funky family band was then invited in yugoslavia for a european tour, including james, kornelius and stacey, but also others great musicians such as william -spaceman- patterson, zane mark, steve kroon, trevor gale, alex foster, or reggie marks, not forgetting flame braithwaite and meli sa morgan on background vocals. having the material of the 4 songs ready and finalized, the pgp rtb label from belgrade offered them to release an album, with the idea to also adapt the songs with lyrics from the famous croatian musician and writer mario mihaljevic. today, favorite recordings is deeply honored to bring this brilliant lp back to life. in order to insure the best sound quality, the original tracklist has been dispatched on a double vinyl version, which should please all djs and music collectors

with just one 7inch release to their name in the form of the 1981 release, jive baby on a saturday night, the cult of the jellies was possibly accidentally assured with the long lost song being rediscovered by collectors and championed by sonic youth s thurston moore no less. picked up and reissued by the stellar trunk records in 2010, the b-side cut, however, was sadly overlooked. now emotional rescue are proud to license the conversation and remaster it especially for this rerelease. based around a simple drum and bass rhythm, interspersed with crowd noise, playful female vocal yelps and sprinkled with dub effects thrown in to the mix and you wouldn t probably think too much would be going for a track that the band put together in the last two hours of their studio time after jive baby had been completed. however, what you get is a killer gem of pop-punk-dub oddness that gets your head nodding to its infectious, repetitive rhythm laden with effects. with just this one (perfect) track available for license it seemed only right to hand it over to the in-house production team, apophenia, to do their increasingly trademark dubbed out reworking, this time in the form of a true, but respectful version for the flip. with both members of the jellies sadly now living overseas this piece of early 80s british dub as it were, can now be fully treasured for posterity while also, proving a nice little smokers delight.

it s not clear who is behind the instinct label, but with this first release the mysterious producer displays an impressive grasp of dark garage and minimal house. the shuffling funk of -the way- is an instant hit, marrying the razor sharp beats with melancholic synths and a killer bass wobble. -pressure- deals in more abstract tones, but there s no let up in the nagging insistence of those crisp hi hats. -cocktail- meanwhile takes a more uptempo approach with its bongo-embellished beat and subtle melodic fragments woven through the mix, and then -instinct- knocks the ball out of the park with an utterly deadly 2-step workout for those who love ghost records and all that ace, moody pre-dubstep busines

this is a collection of works from british musician gp hall, recorded between 1994 and 1999. for over four decades, guitar in hand hall encountered many styles, jazz, blues, flamenco, rock, folk, and classical improvisation. all contributed to the creation of his unique style. emerging from the british blues boom of the 1960�s, he then followed a long and winding path through various scenes and cultures. in spain, he was influenced by flamenco master manitas del plata before touring europe with liverpool band casey jones & the governors. he was commissioned three times (twice by the arts council of great britain) for original music and was immersed in the avant-garde scene of the 1970�s as an improviser, a pioneer of electric flamenco and a composer of large-scale ensemble pieces. during the 1980�s hall turned his focus to soundtrack music before reinventing himself as the solo performer he is today. with this strong foundation he branched into a tactile expression of his craft, discovering a new style which he called industrial sound sculptures. these sonic compositions are performed on electric and acoustic guitars as well as the six-string bass and are played with various techniques and implements including slides, battery fans, the psaltery bow, razors, toys, velcro and crocodile clips which are fed through sound processors to create a rich sonic environment.

during kris baha s migration north, an introduction with berlin cult figure dane//close has led to power station s latest offering and debut mini lp the miniature industrial complex. originally released on limited cassette via noisekolln tapes, the lp brilliantly displays the sameheads resident s appetite for all things wave, industrial and weird, with an eye firmly to the floor. opener rockbox plays like a forgotten b-side dub, 80s drums chug as brazen noises bounce off a delicately nostalgic lead. fourth voice slings low, incessant bass drones as sci-fi vox and metallic hits to the rhein. mercy mercy increases the tempo, an arpeggio leads the way as intensity rises, unnerving samples introduce a flurry of gunshot snares. flip over to ancient rome , a dancefloor musica lirica complete with a forward baseline, air raid sirens and raw drum workouts, the fall of the roman empire! not part of the original cassette release, beard maintains the energy, wild guitar shreds in a neurotic ritmo frenzy alan vega crossing into 2016 dance floors faintly comes to mind. and lastly rounding out with fine experimental ender thunder ...mayday

buttering trio, founded in 2010, consists of kerendun on vocals and tenor saxophone, rejoicer on loops and synths and beno hendler on bass. all three band members are also producers, mostly active between tel aviv and berlin. combining colourful studio productions with sweet yet poignant lyrics, the trio rearranges the definition of beat making, mixing up all genres. the new album threesome was recorded in three different studios in three different cities london, berlin and tel aviv, during 2015 and 2016. it is the bands 3rd lp released on raw tapes records (not including their 1st ep party bear).

brightons boutique house label black key recordskicks off 2017 with a fantastic ep from label newcomer cinthie. cinthie is a well established force in berlin: as well as being a resident at key spots ipse and humboldthain club-where she spins heady vinyl only sets-she runs three much loved labels and collectives in beste modus, unison wax and beste freunde. as such, she is a true leader of the underground house scene who also runs a studio complex in berlin, and so is very much at the heart of the house conversation. kicking things off is the excellent house rhythms , a rugged, bass driven, deep house cut with flabby drums and snares and icy hi hats all sounding informed by classic deep house greats like ron trent. warm, soul infused pads emanate from the core and the whole unhurried affair really sucks you in with its cosy and romantic atmosphere. the second splendid offering is liberty, a much rawerand direct cut designed for peak time sets. again it is riddled with jazzy chords that have real soul, but the drums are exposed and banging and the whole thing barrels along at a sweat inducing pace. this is a typically classy offering from both artist and label that kicks off 2017 in real style.

new underground label abstraxx presents greg son for its first release, delivering 2 astounding pieces of music, clearly influenced by the golden age of detroit dance music. with its raw disco loop and funky bass line �rough edges� has a great house dub vibe. the track builds up nicely adding a subtle abstract spacey-pad and rather unusual background sounds making the track stronger and stronger throughout.this could quite easily become some dj�s secret weapon! while �rough cut� takes a more deep house approach, taking the listener into an intense journey, reminiscent of some detroit dance classics.

kalakuta soul records proudly presents the homewreckers new full length album, machinekiss. the ruhr valley-raised trio have been heavily involved in the underground dance music scene for many years and the soulfulness of their output is unquestioned. now machinekiss might come as their masterpiece. recorded over the past three years the album s nine tracks evolved out of a long in-depth investigation of blues and funk recordings from 1910 to 1980. as the sole sonic sources, the musicians - johannes ehmann, gregor pottmeier and krischan wesenberg - use their own music collections, making the work a reflection of their personal and collaborative history and backgrounds.micro particles of guitar chords, organ sounds and drum elements reappear in new contexts and are fused with contemporary synthesizer and bass motifs. the results are deep, rhythmic, complex and eccentric, leading the listener into the melancholic, more obscure sides of urban life.

for its 6th release, bjarki and johnny chrome silver�s bbbbbb records welcome new signing eod (aka stian gjevik) to their unholy alliance with his swurlk ep . the norwegian born, strictly analog producer takes the label off-roading with four outstanding productions channeling ambient, electro and hard bloody techno. having released on imprints including rephlex and weme records, it was actually on soundcloud that bjarki discovered eod�s music. after getting in touch, the scale of his work emerged as gigabytes of unheard music dating back to 2002 were exchanged, all of which was made without the use of a pc an approach which speaks for itself through his instinctive, playful melodies. swurlk ep boasts an impeccable sense of arrangement, more like that of a composer, and even more impressive considering the absence of any computer. the title track opens with a velvety smooth synth melody building with bass textures.�evenhark uses a broken beat framework to carry floating harmonies. swarm uses layer upon layer of stuttered percussion to build into a relentless techno cut. elcaset_testgroove pairs catchy, interacting melodies with pensive harmonies. swurlk ep is a must listen for fans of melodic electro and an exciting move from a label that continues to challenge all our fucking expectations

following up on their recently released pertiwi ep, featuring two original tracks and a 10 minute soundbath rework of this very record by gonjasufi, gamelan voices (aka nid & sancy) present their first album, aptly titled i.the result is a visceral blend of raw gamelan instruments, atmosperic synths, bass guitar and washes of asian metallophones.although the nine tracks on this album are meditative in nature, you d be wrong to assume this package is little more than new age synths noodling away. i is ambient with a raw component. it touches a nerve and it s as much inspired by the work of jon hassell as it is by coil. i will be released through gong ear and available on digital,cd and vinyl.

sadar bahar & ben cosmic force team up and come correct with these two direct disco jams artwork by cosmo knex. tipp! the two tracker arose after sadar bahar discovered bens utrecht based studio (housing 60 synths!). electro fiend ben was charmed by the electronic elements in sadars funk and sadar loved bens ideas. nuff said, a new nl based project was born. nothing sampled for these tracks. only stabbing guitar, bass, sax and pounding drum programming for dance floor heat!

kid drama�s debut metalheadz release is one that is set to shake up this 4-year-old alias as he heads in a direction that�s slightly more focussed on the dancefloor, whilst managing to subtly retain some of the elements that have seen him become so loved in the deeper and more experimental side of drum and bass. the �trife ep� proves how much of a talent kid drama is, from the savage bassline in �brutal d� to the late 90s techstep vibes of �articulation� all the way to �payback�, which is a track that could have easily come out under his and boddika�s instra:mental moniker. this is an extremely well-rounded project and one we�re delighted to be releasing on metalheadz.

mood 24 returns with the mood series various artists. for this installment we have 4 special tracks each one to suit different styles and tastes. first up we have nima gorji with his contraction track. a groovy minimal track, repetitive but at same time brings you along through a little journey on the dance floor. dragutesku gives us a deep and dark track with special little sounds here and there to bring suspense and anticipation to this wicked track. negru has a more solid house style. 808 drums, sick sub bass and a jazz melodies. petar cvetkovic gives us some more tech house orientated sounds, simplistic drums, groovy rolling percs and a sick vox to wrap things up nicely.

initial listens to inre rymden (swedish for inner space) reveal it to be a curious combination of slow-motion house music and salubrious new age funk. in this case, first impressions are accurate, and they should intrigue you enough to dive deeper into the paradisiacal vistas tommy awards paint here. the opening track prometheus introduces that feeling of sundown deliquescence that very few musicians can summon, as it locks into a laid-back groove that induces utmost serenity, buoyed by sublimely mellow guitar vibes that should make fans of manuel g�ttsching s ashra and phil manzanera s solo output spring to attention. draget conjures the sort of exquisite elegance and preternatural chill last heard on roxy musics 1982 lp avalon but somehow its even more blissed out than that boudoir classic. and so it goes for most of inre rymden: among the six tracks, only rexy hints at tension, courtesy of a bass line that sounds like it should score a prisoners walk to the electric chair. but thats tempered by guitar sighs of radiant melancholy, not unlike those lofted by popol vuh s daniel fichelscher. even when inre rymden gets relatively uptempo, as on hans logan, it still glides like gilded, glazed, balearic house jams, urged on by subliminal bongos and dappled with pastel guitar shimmers far off on the horizon. music is love and love is our music, runs tommy awards slogan (a sentiment beautifully echoed by david crosby on his revered 1971 album if i could only remember my name), but one could also argue that it is medicine a balmy ear massage that spreads healing frissons to all areas of your body and mind. tommy awards continue their miraculous act as scandinavians channeling the tropics with stunning audio verisimilitude.

drummer amir bresler, born in 89, has been established as one of the most sought after israeli drummers, performing in israel and abroad at prominent local and world stage jazz festivals. starting his musical education at the age of 13, amir was first exposed to jazz music at the age of 15 upon his enrollment for the jazz program at the thelma-yellin national high school of the arts from which he graduated with honors. in 2010 amir joined the world renowned bass player, singer and composer avishai cohen, in concerts globally. avishai cohen is considered to be one of the most successful jazz artists in the world today. amir also performed alongside visiting musicians like sam yahel, joel fraham, mark turner, kirk lightsay, dwayne bruno. in addition, amir played with various israeli artists among these are, daniel zamir, omer klein, kutiman, nitai hershkovits, yotam silbrestein, amos hoffman, gilad abro, shai maestro, to name a few. this release is comprised of two tracks, originally composed and recorded for meinl cymbals drummers-videos-series. these tracks were later chosen by amir to be officially released. the first track, afro golden line, is inspired by 70s african high-life music (specially from ghana and nigeria) this is an odd-meter afro-beat track. featuring sefi zislings distinct trumpet melody and uzi ramirez s playful guitar. the second track, fish, is taken from lbts old mixtapes (originally with vocals by kerendun). it was re-recorded at amirs studio while bassist beno hendler & keyboardist nomok composed the third part of the track. both tracks were produced with rejoicer.

glyn -bigga- bush began his production career with rockers hi fi in the early 90s, co-writing several studio albums, a host of remixes and the infamous dj kicks - the black album. in 2000 he went solo as both biggabush and lightning head, making albums for sonar kollektiv and stereo deluxe as well as many more remixes. his sound reflects his love of dub reggae, analogue synthesisers and intricate rhythms, with influences of samba, afrobeat, the deep dubscapes of rhythm & sound and most recently the more interesting end of 140bpm bass music. this ep is his first vinyl release since the late 00s and takes in a number of bass-heavy rumblers with classic biggabush twists and turns, starting with the steppas delight of mangrove monkey, relentless subs and skanks of sounds & blues, post-dubstep breaks on dash way com and finishing with a minimal 4/4 fx soundscape on footsie index.

julian jeweil�s �midi� continues the release, seeing the talented frenchman utilising synths with real expertise and blending electronic nuances with melodic percussive elements to bring us nicely on to the compilation�s closing track, the deep and trippy tech house gem �slush fund� by berlin-based simina grigoriu.

new years deal - a1 - luc marianni - six synthetic suites (anno stamm remix) berlin producer anstam�s remix of six synthetic suites is quite a trip. the producer has crafted a dubbed-out version, almost sub aquatic in its sound design, structured around a murky but driving techno beat on which he layers marianni�s sounds. exotic instruments, unusual timbres, daring melodies and even slapped bass: the contrast between these sounds and stamm�s grayscale groove is powerful. a2 vril - synthetic suite giegling artist vril uses samples from marianni�s six synthetic suites released in 1986 to produce this lovely slab of dub techno. carefully crafted, this track is all about soft edges, with a kind of blurry and hazy vibe that permeates it. a sense of motion is conveyed by the sparse but efficient rhythmic section, with chords and melodic elements giving the impression of floating. with much more contrast and complexity than it might seem at first listen, this is beyond your usual dub techno cut. b1 luc marianni - six synthetic suites (margaret dygas remix) also based in berlin, margaret dygas� own remix of six synthetic suites is a deconstructed affair, built around a half step groove, ready to be used creatively in dj sets. somewhere between an ambient excursion and a more rhythmic jam, the producer uses a sparse palette of hallucinogenic, dizzying sounds with a dash of eerie darkness that gives this version a melancholic, unsettling nature. words by edouard isar.
